Diverse Perspectives
This book
explores the many ways that people can be diverse. Everyone is different and
unique in his or her own way. Whether you are missing teeth, you like to dance,
or your skin is green, this book tells us that it is okay to be different!
The illustrations
in this book appear to be hand drawings of stick figures and smiley faces that
represent the ways that people can be diverse. I love how colorful and creative they are!
I chose
kindergarten for the grade level and Language arts for the content area. I feel
that it is very important for the children to know that it is okay to be
diverse. Perhaps the students could use construction paper and glue sticks to
construct a self portrait that emphasizes their features that makes them
unique.
I use to read this to my pre-school kiddos and they loved it. Granted, they probably didn't understand the theme behind the book. Perfect for kindergarten!
