Although it
may be difficult, talking about death with children is very beneficial. I feel
that death is one subject that everyone around the world can relate to because
everyone who has ever lived is going to die at some point. This story explains
that not only can old people die, but young people can die as well.
The illustrations for this book
were made by putting paint on a potato and using it as a stamp to make the
balloons. The strings were painted with a paintbrush.
I feel that
Kindergarten would be a good time to introduce this book. It could easily be a
science lesson about how different things live and die. You could include art
by allowing the students to paint potato halves and use them as stamps on paper
to create balloons just like the ones in the story.
I literally cry every time I think about this book. I couldn't imagine reading this to a classroom, because I would ball my eyes out!
